Follow these instructions for registration with Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Association and the Spotted Mountain Horse Association. All services require a current membership

Registration of Foals:

  • Complete the KMSHA Registration Application
  • Submit 4 Current Pictures - Front, Rear, Left, and Right showing entire horse and all markings – move forelock for the front picture
  • Provide a DNA sample from mane or tail including hair bulb
  • Mail KMSHA Registration Application, pictures, DNA sample and appropriate fees:
    o Birth to 9 months - $40
    o 10 months to 12 months – $70
    o Over 12 months - $100
    o DNA - $50
    o International fee - add $10 to each service

    • Certification of a Registered Horse Under Saddle :

  • Complete the KMSHA Certification Request
  • Submit 4 Current Pictures - Front, Rear, Left, and Right showing entire horse and all markings – move forelock for the front picture
  • Mail original registration certificate, KMSHA Certification Form, pictures, and appropriate fees:
    o Mares/Geldings - $50
    o Stallions - $100
    o International fee - add $10 to each service

    • Registration and Certification of a Horse Under Saddle:

  • Complete the KMSHA Registration Application
  • Submit 4 Current Pictures - Front, Rear, Left, and Right showing entire horse and all markings – move forelock for front picture
  • Provide a DNA sample from mane or tail including hair bulb - contact us if you already have DNA results from University of Kentucky to investigate possible acceptance
  • Mail KMSHA Registration Application, pictures, DNA sample, and appropriate fees:
    o Mares/Geldings - $150
    o Stallions - $200
    o DNA - $50
    o International fee - add $10 to each service

    • Ownership Transfer

  • All listed owners must be current members
  • Record the transfer on the back of the registration certificate and mail original registration certificate with appropriate fees:
    o Less than 30 days of purchase - $25
    o Over 30 days of purchase - $35
    o Intermediate transfers that have not been paid for and recorded from the past - $15 each
    o International fee - add $10 to each service

    • Duplicate Paper Request

  • Complete the KMSHA Duplicate Paper Request – the owner of record must request the duplicate papers – if the current owner is not the owner of record, then the KMSHA Transfer of Ownership with appropriate fees (as listed above) must also be included
  • Submit 4 Current Pictures - Front, Rear, Left, and Right showing entire horse and all markings – move forelock for the front picture
  • Mail the KMSHA Duplicate Paper Request and appropriate fees:
    o Duplicate paper fee - $60
    o International fee - add $10 to each service

    • Name Change Request

  • Complete the KMSHA Name Change Request
  • Mail original registration certificate, KMSHA Name Change Request, and appropriate fees:
    o Name change fee - $60 o mail International fee - add $10 to each service

    • Both parents not registered KMSHA or SMHA? Contact us to discuss eligibility for registration in our Appendix program.
